"This is an emergency broadcast: The world felt the tremor of several earthquakes this evening, the latest being just fifteen minutes ago. People are being urged to find shelter and to stay inside." The reporter presses her fingers against her ear piece, her eyes snap from side to side quickly glancing over the new headline before continuing. "And just in: reports of an unknown virus has infected tens of thousands of people, many of whom are already dead" she swallows as her eyes glaze with terror. "Everyone is to be evacuated immediately, city trucks will be filling the streets shortly.' She takes a quick pause "'This is a world wide state of emergency, one we have never seen before. Leave everything, wait for no one and do not touch the infected' is the message from State officials." A siren blares in the background of the broadcast and the camera begins to shake. "We need to leave" One male voice says from behind the shaking camera "Everybody out now!" Another shouts. She stands up and pulls at her skirt. She stares into the camera one last time "Please everyone, find an evacuation tuck and leave now, this is real! Get yourself to safety and may God have mercy on us all" she's led out of shot and the broadcast cuts to static white noise. The virus that's infected millions has caused the world to enter a state of apocalypse. The city's are empty, the houses are abandoned and everything Rocket has ever known has been wiped out from under her. She needs to learn to survive, live without getting infected by the virus that has shattered the planet. And it's only going to get harder when those who are dead begin to wake.

It's been five years since the plague struck. Leah knows there are other survivors, but she's avoiding them. She is doing just fine on her own. Surviving after everyone she knew died has made her physically strong and honed her intelligence, but she is emotionally devastated. There is nothing to fear if you don't make yourself emotionally vulnerable. James has spent the last five years helping to build up a colony of survivors. He believes in the small town they have populated and its mission to save humanity from extinction. He and his small team of men find scattered people and bring them in. Over the last two centuries, women have fought for and won more and more rights, gaining equality with men. Society, law, and technology bolsters and enforces these rights, but now they are gone. Women's equality with men is over. There are just too few of them. They aren't lesser but greater, more important, more valuable than men. Men are expendable. Men can stay outside alone if they like, but all women must be brought inside the safety of the Colony and properly taken care of. James has been searching the area Leah lives in. Her time of solitude is up. Leah sparks something in James he's never felt before. He's not letting this one get away, certainly not twice.
