Both Enjolras and Éponine are not at all straight. The former totally fancies Grantaire, and the latter is head over heels for Cosette.
Gender identities such as theirs is a taboo subject in the modern world of today. Their conservative parents and the illiberal school that they attend to, would definitely not tolerate such kind of disparity.
Therefore, in order to conceal their true colors, and spare the remaining pride that they have got, Enjolras and Éponine come up with a deal to put on a show and date.

I couldn't answer him. I didn't know what to say to him. I didn't think I could really say anything to him. I did not want to face the facts of what had happened, or the consequences I knew were soon to follow. I just wanted to avoid it all. I wanted to deceive the passion that was burning deep inside of me, and simply forget that any of this had ever happened. I wished to pretend that I hadn't slept with Marius, and betrayed Eponine.
