Everyone starts to give up on him slowly but surely; seeing him lie there without a real personality, body function or even the capability to notice his surroundings, makes them doubt whether letting him live is even a choice to begin with. They just want to mourn their lost friend.
But not Makoto; he knows that Haruka's condition might not fix itself over time, but he's also well aware that things like this can be carried. It's his job to carry Haruka through these tough moments by staying by his side, loving him and taking care of him 24/7.
