Sherlock is a newer android, model Rk700, for the function of assisting the Scotland Yard on cases. However, a certain Sherlock was purchased by an outside party, Magnussen, which isn't illegal. It was concerning, though - especially when the Sherlock had reported a crime in the home involving a deviant. Throughout the ongoing investigation, the android was sent to be re-homed with the Medical examiner who worked on the Magnussen deviancy case. Dr John Watson, who was often commissioned by The New Scotland Yard, took the android in at his one bedroom flat on Baker Street.
Soon enough, Sherlock began offering its services to The New Scotland Yard... then, to John.
