❝ You get happy endings with the unexpected and the rehearsed. Sometimes it's not up for you to decide.❞

Ashleigh Buress expects this summer to be different. With her dream internship on the horizon and her best friend about to get his big break, she knows that things are coming, a new different she may actually like. Until the opposite happens. Cracks under the surface of her future leave her disgruntled and confused, and things become more uncertain than they've ever been. Ashleigh begins to wonder if she's one of the unlucky few to only know disappointment until she dies. Then she meets James.

Jameson Duress is a lot like her: he's unhappy with where he is and he has a lot on his plate. Even their surnames rhyme and he's an exact year older. They meet in the unlikeliest of places, and she finds to her surprise there's more to him than just a cute face and an affinity for coffee cakes. He's the frontman of a local band and has a history with Ashleigh, not to mention he's gunning for the very same record label her best friend's spent over a decade aspiring for.

Ashleigh finds herself falling for the enemy, waltzing right into a forbidden summertime romance. As a battle rages on for top spot, a girl only used to being on the sidelines gets caught in the middle and this time, she won't be able to walk away unscathed.

Sometimes the risky leaps need to be taken, but Ashleigh's never been the type to leave solid ground.
