Techno and Zak's mom's have always been close. They hung out a lot, and talked to each other often.
Techno's mom had realized that he was kind of lonely. He didn't have a lot of friends, so she told Zak that if he attempted to befriend her son, she'd pay him.
So, long story short, Zak ends up falling for the person that he's being paid to be friends with.
