The Darklings

Set in the year 2075, "The Darklings" takes place in a land known only as The Country, where humanity has been under siege for five years by a species of extraterrestrial doppelgänger's known as "Darklings", who have terrified their Hosts (human counterparts) and psychologically forced them into submission. The plot centers around seventeen-year old Luke Dawson from the northwestern colony of Revengale. Luke is special as, to his and the rest of Revengale's confusion, he is the only known person without a Darkling, a fact that paints him as a dangerous target for suspicion. Luke dreads what the future holds, terrified of the inevitable appearance of his Darkling - a day that haunts his dreams and is driven home through taunts by Henry, the Darkling to his older brother, Hank. However, when Luke's Darkling eventually does arrive on the night of Revengale's fifth anniversary - having lost his memory and begging Luke for help - the two are branded as a threat, and are run out of town. Knowing they can't go back, the two set out to join an underground guild of fighters seeking the end of the Darklings once and for all.

The events that follow portray the efforts of Luke and his Darkling, Blue, along with their new friends as they journey across The Country to undermine the sinister plans of the Darkling's leader, Valon. All the while, a revolution brews within The Country as the mystery of the Darklings and their connection to humanity deepens. Soon, Luke, Blue, and their allies find themselves shouldered with the responsibility of finding answers before a terrifying truth unleashes itself on both species
