Noel has spent her entire life waiting to be chosen.

Abandoned on the steps of a shifter orphanage as an infant, she was left with only a worn stuffed rabbit, a woven blanket, and a letter she was never meant to read until the day she shifted for the first time.

Keep our baby girl safe. Our enemies will never stop hunting for her.

Twenty-seven years later, Noel is still at the orphanage.

Not as a child, but as one of the women who keeps it running. She cares for the unwanted, comforts frightened little ones through the night, and quietly tells herself that she doesn't mind being the one who was never taken home.

Somewhere beneath all those carefully buried hopes, though, a small part of her still dreams of being wanted.

Then Zaynie walks through the doors.

Powerful, wealthy, and unmistakably dominant, the alpha lioness came intending to make a donation.

She leaves knowing she has found her mate.

Zaynie has spent years searching for someone she could cherish, protect, and one day call her own. Everything inside her demands that she claim the shy rabbit shifter whose scent makes her lion restless.

But Noel is not something to be claimed.

She is a woman carrying twenty-seven years of scars, terrified that affection always comes with a price and that anyone who promises to stay will eventually leave.

So for perhaps the first time in her life, Zaynie must do something far harder than taking what she wants.

She must wait for Noel to choose her.

And just as Noel begins to wonder whether belonging to someone might not mean losing herself, the past her parents sacrificed everything to hide begins stirring again.

Because Noel was not abandoned because she was unwanted.
