Arlo and Makoto are arriving home from a ski trip together. As the train gets caught in a snow storm and the two are left alone in a dark train cabin, the two long time friends begin to talk. And after the two begin to talk about the past, they realize how much they're relationship has grown since their elementary days.
This story follows the two over the next twelve years as their relationship grows, falters, and stalls. Three parts make up this novel as the two struggle to keep their relationship in tact as time threatens to separate the couple as they learn that love and relationships aren't as simple as they would wish it to be.
