"What happened, kitten?" I asked, my tone soft but tight with concern, as I reached out instinctively. At the same time, I looked up, and the moment our gazes locked, I saw it, his sad, doe-like eyes, filled with something I couldn't quite identify. "Did someone do this to you?" I added, my breath catching as the possibility of someone hurting him hit me like a wave.
"Yes," he whispered, his voice barely a breath, and before I could react, he quickly pulled away, as if the very sight of me was too much to bear. "You did."
