Kyra is an orphan, who also happens to be a necromancer, who works at Maplecoast's Hall of the Dead. One day, when something goes wrong after Kyra raises a dead man for a murder trial, her life is thrown into chaos. She meets Taka Yoyung, a young adventurer and warrior, who helps her hunt down and track a murderer.

Their lives collide as they both leave Maplecoast, Taka in search of her lost brother and Kyra to learn how to defend and protect herself. As they travel, Taka reveals one of her biggest secrets, she's the champion of Itar, the dragon god of knowledge and play, and the beast sent her on a mission, one without a destination.
