When Katniss Everdeen returns home from the Capitol after the rebellion she finds that coping and grieving is very difficult, and with nobody to help her she is in danger wasting away alone. When Peeta returns home Katniss realizes that for both herself and Peeta she needs to work on recovering and look towards the future rather than the past. As they help each other mourn their losses and recover lost memories, they find that what they needed all along was each other. As the weeks, months, and eventually years go on they find that what they really need is each other.
All characters and concepts related to the Hunger Games Trilogy belong to Suzanne Collins.
