"I know you're lying" Michael said between sobs. I was about to object when he continued, "Don't! I know you're keeping something from me. I've been trying to figure it out, but I just can't get to a plausible conclusion. Nothing makes sense, Charlie."
My heart was beating so fast. His words hit me like a truck. I'd hoped it would never come to this, but I knew the only acceptable thing to do was to tell him the truth.
"Okay" I said "but you need to hear what I say without interrupting me and please, please, keep an open mind."
