The Great Debate

Melanie had never felt as passionate about anything as she did about the extracurricular debate program her parents had forced her into. There was something thrilling in arguing with someone, sharing her own opinions, proving the truth behind her words. It was something she had grown to love, despite her original protests against her parents. She remembered her mother saying, "If you're so passionate about not joining this thing, just imagine what you could do if you put that same energy into doing it." She soon discovered that, as usual, her mother was right. This was something she could see herself doing for the rest of her life, competing against complete strangers, sharing laughs with friends behind the scenes, but what happens when the club is shut down due to a lack of funding, and she's decides to join the school team to fill her spare time?
