"It wasn't a trick. I did love you." He shrugs half-heartedly. "I just could never figure out what to do about it."

After Mako returns to his work as a police detective, he's assigned to the case of Ichiro: an infamous Fire Nation purist, known for fracturing and killing many multicultural families over the years. Working with him is someone he's tried his best to avoid for the past few years; a former friend; waterbender [Y/N], who he hasn't talked to since he found her among the Equalists. Unfortunately, Chief Beifong isn't giving either of them much of a say in this partnership.

As time goes on, Mako and [Y/N] find themselves rekindling the connection they once had. At the same time, their time together on the case is drawing to an end; they're coming very close to finding Ichiro, and once they do, they'll have to part ways. But the closer they get to him, the more secrets are brought to the surface. No one is quite who they seem, and some part of you worries that you have a higher chance of getting struck by lightning than your relationship with Mako holding up under the weight of your secrets again.
