Jean Kirschtein lived a simple life in Trost District. When his father abandoned him and his mother, anger consumed him. Jean wanted nothing more than to live an easy life in the Interior, so he joined the Cadet Corps. He planned to serve only himself and care for himself and no others.

Here, Emalina and Jean meet on Initiation day, neither expecting to find the other in their lives. Instantly attracted as friends, their relationship grows until both realize they have feelings for each other. But it might be too late.
