Living next door and sharing the same birthday, everyone believed Ryan Lueck and Clayton Mattox would end up together. They did everything together growing up. Wherever one went, the other tagged along too. They were inseparable. No one would think they're just best friends.

It's their senior year and they intend to make the best of it, especially their last high school football season. Clay is the star running back and Ryan stands on the sidelines next to him as a student athletic trainer.

Everything changes during an after party when Clay is dared to kiss Ryan. Thinking he would never kiss her, Clay takes her by surprise. She finds herself enjoying the kiss and wanting more. More than a best friend should want.

Ryan tries to figure out her feelings towards Clay, while navigating her senior year that brings questions to the future of their relationship. Will Ryan and Clay be the couple everyone has been wishing for? Or will the pressure of college tear them apart?

Coming of Age is about the tragic experiences some teenagers go through and many others are aware of. The story explores themes like identity, ambition, love, trauma, forgiveness, free will, and redemption. Sensitive subject matter like drug addiction, extreme poverty, abuse, and violence are touched on, but in an honest, non-exploitative way. The story is based on my experiences as a teenager dealing mental health issues and the people I knew. Writing is my way to raise awareness of the issues I went through. I want to speak to people who can relate to my story and bring understanding to those that don't.
