"You know what? You're kind of hot! I'm going to bust you out." His soft voice surprises me, and my freckled cheeks blush at his blunt compliment.
"I can bust myself out, thank you." I say.
"Aww man! You seem like a damsel in distress! I'm Atlas Day, by the way."
The most famous criminal in today's time?
I quickly hide my surprise.
"Well, you seem like a damsel in distress too." I smirk and wink as he gapes.
"Say, what are you going to do when you escape?" He questions, suspicious.
"Why do you care? You don't know my name!" I say, confused. Why is he acting like we're the best of friends?
"Ummm... yes I do? You're pretty famous; after all, you are a witch protected by a mayor. The rumors are flying, and even the king came to see you die! I could use a partner like you."
I stare.
"Partner?"

She should've known she was getting into a world of trouble.

Kayda always had the power to control fire, and while she has always been protected from the harsh truth of the world, she does know that she could be executed at anytime. Thankfully, though, Mayor Bjørn has always had her back. Protecting her and teaching her to control her powers, the old woman was like a grandma to Kayda until one day, she was murdered, and Kayda is no longer in her protection. Sentenced to death by who she thought was her best friend, she escapes from the burning stake with a mysterious boy. After finding out the boy is the one and only notorious rebel, Atlas Day, she joins forces in hope to assonate the one she once loved. When secrets, motives, and pasts are revealed, Kayda and Atlas have to juggle the heaping tower of problems before them: Did that kiss mean something? Are they really the good guys? What really happened to Bjørn, and why did Kayda's old friend let them get away?
Can they figure it out before it's too late?
An internal voice whispered, "Call him."
But I chose not to.
I dismissed it once more, saying, "He never liked me anyway."
Yet the dilemma lingered.
"But maybe he does. The way he looks at you... it's different."
Out of nowhere, he glanced my way. My heartbeat quickened, sending shivers down my spine.
I averted my gaze, pretending to look around.
"Has he noticed me? No, wait-oh my god."

### Notice:
This is my first published story, and it contains numerous grammatical errors and bad editing. If you're interested in the storyline, please don't judge me too harshly based on this book. Better stories are on the way-I'm still learning and improving every day.
