The remaining time she had with her one and only, she had to spend it decently; she had to realize that she could lose the one thing that made her happy and she couldn't have let that happen. Alexandra goes back to her last year in high school after the long, hot summer. Once a new guy enters her Alabama school, she is immediately drawn to how closed up his emotions are. Despite the fact they fall in love eventually, he leaves for war and it feels to Alex as her life runs slow, praying for the day for him to come back home and kiss her endlessly.
