Elizabeth "Eli" Lahote is the younger sister of Paul Lahote. Eli lives with her mother in Tacoma, Washington while her brother stays with his father in La Push, Washington. One summer Eli is forced to visit her father and bother in La Push as a last resort when her mother grows concerned for her daughters mental health and unhealthy habits. While visiting La Push, Eli's already awful moods swings begins to grow much worse. Her body and mind are starting to change drastically unknowingly to her. She is unwilling growing attached to others after having spent months pushing people away and only keeping to herself. How will Eli accept this change? Will she stay in La Push or go back to Tacoma. Eli has spent her whole life running away in fear; will she run from this too?
