I grappled the rope and hoisted myself up onto the decking. A wet hand hung in front of my face, seaweed dangling from the fingertips and as I looked up, it also hung from the tips of his fringe.

Following this incident, she was drawn into a world completely foreign to her, where she struggled to adapt to her new life. I was face to face with death. I knew it. The hand gripping my wrist, the lips pressing against mine-gone. And I was left standing there, completely stunned. It felt as though I had forgotten my own name. I started to tremble. My legs gave out beneath me, and I collapsed to the ground. Sitting there, shaking in shock, I finally understood what he was.
