"Why?"
It was less of a question and more of a statement. A surrender, even. The voice was hollow. Empty.
"Because of Them," was the reply. There was contained rage, along with a sense of despair.
"Oh," a third voice said. It was an "oh" of surprise. This voice was weak. Shy. Afraid.
Then there was a bright light, and the room was empty. A bright red scarf with fringe lay alone on the floor.
In a quiet town, three high school students have decided to find out who the vanishing girl is.

Esther calls her ' sakodo' but she was given the name slit-faced girl by the people who saw her. But those people that feared or saw her died the next day. Why do people die the same? How do people die? Most importantly, what killed them? One day the girl suddenly disappears. Nobody knows where. A few days after she disappeared, all that was left of her was forgotten.
