It had been a month since Nico spent those 3 days in the infirmary, and he was slowly growing closer and closer with Will Solace. After lovely picnic on the lake, Nico realized how he truly felt about Solace, and ran from himself, ran from his feelings. But no one can run forever.
This is a chapter that I had pre-written from a Solangelo fanfiction that I'm writing, but I love it so much I wanted to release it early as a short story. Cover art is by @toastchild on tumblr! All characters belong to the wonderful Rick Riordan!

Nico di Angelo is finally happy. He's learning to accept himself for his sexuality and as a son of Hades. After everything horrible that has happened to him, he's slowly getting better with the help of Will and his friends. Will Solace finally got the boy of his dreams. The boy he had a crush on since he was 11 years old. He's starting to realize that he isn't as useless as he thinks he is, and that he's actually worth something. Everything is going great for a while. But just like it always is for demigods, nothing good ever lasts. The death of Nico's first and closest friend Jason Grace puts a sudden end to the sunshine that currently brightens Nico's life for once. His death triggers a lot of things for him, and shines light on a lot of his unresolved trauma. Will Nico be able to make it through this without his mental stability completely breaking once and for all? Will Nico be able to let people in enough to help him get through it? And what about the mysterious dreams that Nico keeps having of his mom? And who really is this little girl that knows nothing about her past? In this sequel to Out of the Shadows, Nico sees familiar faces and revisits past places, but at least this time he has Will along for the ride. Nico has to deal with other people's problems, especially when he doesn't want to. He has to quickly learn how to build relationships with other campers from the ground up, and even though Nico is banned from using his 'Underworldy' powers, he's still a demigod, and danger and adventure are always at his heels, even at camp!
