My mother gave me gifts so I could grow flowers. And now, I use my writing to give flowers back to her, the world, and create beautiful things for others. To the immigrant kid waiting for their parents to come home, this is for you. I see you. To the young woman unsure of if she will ever have a life of fairness, this is for you. I see you. To anyone who has ever felt alone, this is for you. I see you. * This is a collection of my shorter pieces, both poetry and stories about my experiences and my life. Being a young woman who is Chinese-Canadian I have wrangled with questions of loss of culture, identity, belonging, language, safety, and meaning-making all my life. I don't have all the answers but writing helps me examine the questions in my head and find peace. With poetry and writing that is accessible, emotional, honest, and full of heart, Flowers from my Mother is an exploration of feminism, racism, environmentalism, identity, pain, loss, hope, and most of all: beauty.
