After the Wave mission, Naruto realized that his shadow clone jutsu can only get him so far, and his taijutsu style is more brawler based. Not to mentioned his Chakra control needs more improvement. At his 3rd birthday he was became smart shinobi who was honing his skills to become the best. But his parents never payed attention to him, they only care about his two older siblings Menma and Mito. At his 3rd birthday and he got his first beating, he met the Nine Tailed Fox otherwise known as Kurama. He celebrated by himself but the villagers saw him and they beat him up, in the beating someone stabbed his left eye making him blind on the left side.
