This story is set in the future of Sophie's life-the Neverseen are defeated and are locked up in exile, everyone finished the elite levels, things are (mostly) back to normal in the Lost Cities.
When Sophie finds out who her biological father is, she goes to the matchmakers to see who's on her list. now that the Neverseen are gone, and everthing is settled, Sophie wants a chance to make Fitz happy- but she feels like she doesn't truly love him. Sophie is confused and not sure what to do. With all of that, Keefe goes to the Forbidden Cities where they are not allowed to go to according to the elvish law. Keefe and Sophie start to write to each other with letters, sending them across the two different worlds.

The events also have to do with things that happened up to legacy, so whatever happens in Unlocked and the rest of the series will be different. (Did that make sense I'm sorry)

Beginning right after the latest Keepers book Unlocked, Sophie returns home to Find Grady suspiciously sad, but never in her mind could she have imagined why, finally she goes up stairs and reads Keefe's (heartbreaking) letter.
