A god is resurrected and a prisoner escapes, they both hold a grudge against Dick and seek to destroy him. They have allied together with other beings with godlike powers to eliminate their target.
And that's not the only challenge the young detective has to face, using the Excalibur, the souls in the bodies of Dickson and another of his comrades have been switched, it's now even more difficult as they have to learn to adapt to their new bodies while still facing their opposition.
