In the 22nd century, teenage Ophelia Pierce discovers she is different than most while living on a planet drowned out by darkness.

A short story I wrote awarded with several first place prizes. Accepted entry to the Governor's School of the Arts.
I may continue to develop this story into a novel.

Portal (ONC 2025)
🏆 ONC 2025 SHORT-LISTER 🏆 Warning: Explicit mentions of violence, suicide and sexual content. Please proceed with caution. Rated Mature. ============================================= The sun burns too hot outside. And inside her house, the heat isn't the worst thing. Her mother's words hit just as hard, reminding her that she's a disappointment. School isn't much better. No one notices when she's there, no one cares when she's gone. She's background noise, too exhausted to try anymore. And then the puddle appears. It shouldn't be there, not in this drought. When she kneels beside it, her reflection stares back. It blinks. It pulls her in. She thought she would die drowning in. But being alive, dragged into another world isn't the problem. Now she is important to this other world. Now, she is seen. But because she is so valuable, the General wants to use her. And possibly, someone that might want her to stay, for her. Life On This Planet: Book 1
By 2422, humankind has achieved an ecotopian climate-positive future. There's zero conflict and zero waste throughout the whole world. But, when a young girl starts having mysterious visions of a walled city, it might signal the ancient return of something threatening this ideal. Can humans escape their nature, or will they return to their old patterns and behaviours? Zee, a quiet and industrious young girl, begins to have vivid dreams and visions of a walled city and a mysterious red book when she turns fifteen. She embarks on a dangerous training programme, meeting other teenagers from around the planet, navigating deep sea trenches, black holes, and a new romance whilst trying to uncover an ancient mystery surrounding quantum entanglement. Will she solve it to save her pet squid and the planet? When millions of Earth's populations left four hundred years ago seeking a new planet to colonise, it paved the way for Earth to stabilise and thrive. But what happened to those people? Why has there been no contact? Are the visions sent from the ancient humans who left planet Earth? Zee quickly learns that her newfound independence is not without its challenges. MYTH-TAKEN IDENTITY - a 2025 ONC novella
An introverted, recluse gamer accidentally finds out she's the reincarnation of a Greek god/goddess, and is stuck in a world-altering time-loop until she figures out WHICH god/goddess she's destined to become. ***** Ophelia Jones is...well, she's nothing. She asks for nothing. She WANTS nothing. Just to stay in her dark basement-apartment, do her mindless data-entering job by day, play video games by night. She refuses to participate in a real social life, and won't read the news or be active in the LGTBQIA+ scene that she belongs in. No, Ophelia is done giving a sh**. She'd rather live in her fantasy world, ignoring the real world around her. That is, until a mysterious puddle surfaces in her backyard, and she jokingly wonders if it'll be a portal to another world, someplace better - and she falls into it. Oh, she's transported to a new world, all right -- but not a parallel world or an alternate universe. She's transported to the past; into mythology, specifically. Greek mythology, to be even more exact. Because according to Alfie, her "spiritual guide", she's a reincarnated god or goddess, and has to figure out who. Problem? In a world of those who have human and wolf blood, Ophelia is the daughter of a wolf hunter. There's just one thing that might cause trouble for that and that is Ophelia's growing relationship with a pack of wolves that live in the forest behind her house. Ophelia thought her life was going to be simple. Well, as simple as life could get when she just happened to be failing her job, her relationship and (the absolute bane of it all) mathematics. But oh, no, something far more deadly and sinister awaits Ophelia in the forest behind her home. Will she be able to discover how to save her new friends before something takes them from her forever? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Werewolves in England? Yeah, apparently stranger things did happen. Much, much stranger than I had ever thought of before, but strange nonetheless. At first, I thought I had simply been imagining it. As soon as I got into bed and stared up at my ceiling, I pinched myself just to establish that I wasn't, in fact, dreaming. I wasn't dreaming. Thus, I had to accept what I had seen in the forest as the cold, hard, truth- make that the warm, fuzzy, truth. Werewolves were real. It was either that, or I was completely losing it.Concluída

Not knowing how to tap into it. Not knowing if it can be controlled, she can only hope that it doesn't consume her. Alecia meets new individuals. Some are friends; some are enemies. Tales of Disturbance
A young teenage girl, haunted by the memories of her father's execution, attempts to escape a cruel regime by night. A solitary woman, abandoned by her husband, inadvertently plays into the cruel hands of 'the state'. In another totalitarian regime a traffic light fixer is dealt with brutally for admiring a sunset. All these characters capture the essence of what it's like to be disempowered and cruelly dehumanised at the hands of a heinous, corrupt power. This sharp collection of pertinent short stories throws an at times uncomfortable light on cruelty, injustice and persecution that is all too relevant today. But ultimately these stories celebrate the strength and determination to survive at all costs, that exists within all of us.
