Victorian Scotland in 1875 didn't present a woman with many options. Katherine Cameron was too old to marry, too high born to be a housekeeper, too uneducated to be a governess, from too disreputable a family to be a companion and too skinny to be a mistress. The quiet independence she'd created wasn't everything she wanted, but she knew it was the best she was likely to get.

Then an unexpected meeting with Andrew Spears, a fascinating American about whom she knows very little, launches both their hearts on an adventure through the lives of servants, industrialists, peers and prostitutes, from the Second City of the Empire to a beautiful hidden Highland glen, along the cutting edge of the wonders of the Victorian Age and finally face to face with her shocking past - and his secret life.

Raised as Hunters in a hidden counterinsurgency society in the late nineteenth century, nineteen year old Welsh twins Carys and Cadeyrn Llewelyn have led brutal, unforgiving lives filled with heartbreak and pain. As the only female Hunter, Carys has proven her place among the males, but not without a terrible price. And while Carys is as self-sacrificing as ever, it's up to Cadeyrn to make sure he's there to pick up the pieces. When a mysterious Hunter from London beckons the twins and their friends to the city to eliminate a target, self discoveries are made, relationships are tested, and wounds are reopened. _____ "Cadeyrn, everything we have been through, everything we have sacrificed has come down to this moment. Steamboats and trains make travel exponentially faster. Industry has become the crown jewel of the country. Stringent moral codes are disintegrating. Everything that we used to take for granted has been distorted. Amidst all of this revolution, I see women restlessly gazing out their windows. They want a share of this exciting, new world. I have been privileged to have access to it and I do not want to be the only one...but I do not know if I am the right person to bring about this change," Carys whispered dejectedly. Cadeyrn sat on Carys's bed and enveloped her in a brotherly embrace. "Do not say such things about yourself. You are as strong and determined as Mam was." Carys gave Cadeyrn a watery smile and he returned to his own bed. Carys turned her body around so that she was facing the window. The curtains were pulled aside so she could see the stars littering the night sky. The gentle slopes of the hills stretched as far as the eye could see and the darkened shadow of the village was a speck off in the distance. At this breathtaking sight, Carys finally let the tears fall. Each teardrop held her fears, her anger, and her sadness. Why would one need to find refuge in the shadows if there is nothing to hide? Only in a perfect world.

Mathan and Helen💕 "Help me make Alastair and Gretchen fall in love." She pleaded sinking into his arms. "That's a dangerous game you're playing lassie." He murmured kissing her hair and making his way down to her neck. "One I know you'll be very good at playing." She smiled up at him. "The things you make me do woman." He groaned blinking his surprise as her fingers found and cupped him. "You can't say I don't make up for it." She smiled as his lips came down on hers. "Are all you English women this cunning?" "No." She shrugged, "I'm an exception." "Indeed you are." When Mathan had been asked suddenly by Alastair to take over his duties for the day as he hastily rode off to Edinburgh on the King's command, he had expected nothing out of the ordinary to happen in the usually peaceful town of Ayrshire but when a red haired Vixen blows into their sleepy town anger directed at his cousin over an arranged marriage they all knew nothing about, he knew he would have his hands full keeping the town together. At least her demure handmaid had brought a little bit of calmness where her mistress raged on like a thunderstorm. What happens when the little woman he deemed calm starts to exhibit a fire that attracted him more than he thought possible? ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ When Helen is told that she and her Lady are to move to the barbaric North, she hoped for the best even though a part of her worried for hers and her Lady's well being. But when they drive at the cozy town of Ayrshire and the only fire she has to deal are that of her mistress and the growing desire she was feeling for the giant Scotsman, she seems Scotland not so bad after all. What happens when a Northern playboy meets a seemingly homely Southern woman? Will love conquer all or will they never be able to meet at the middle?
