They say that in the afterlife there is heaven and hell but what about the middle of it both?
Well that place is called the dark forest. Nobody knows what's in it and most people forgot this even existed since there are only a selected few has access to this and most of them never made it out...
The grim reaper is one of the selected few since this is also the middle of living and dead. His friends, Mason and Clara, also have access to this and they usually hang out in that forest to try and see what lurks within it. In the afterlife they were tasked to try and make a map of the dark forest and to write about the creatures in it.
One day the grim reaper never came back. His friends are assigned bring a soul to heaven and if possible bring the reaper back.
