Persephone has already been kidnapped by Hades, her unwanted and unexpected suitor. Demeter has already cast a famine on all the humans in her grief. Hades struggles to win Persephone over...but perhaps Persephone has always been meant to be with him, and she wasn't an innocent as she was thought she was... The title was appointed to me because I was the unlucky one. My job is just as important as my brother's jobs. I wasn't selected because of my cruel ways but now because of the way people speak of me and fear me now I am the cruel one whether or not I like it. Do you honesty think it is fair that it should work that way? People take one look at me and assume I'm the devil." Persephone crouches back in her seat. I realize I am standing and seat myself, trying to calm myself. "Do you honestly think that being in charge of the dead and judging them makes me undeserving of love, of a wife? I'm doomed to be exiled down here. I don't even have the sun to keep me warm, Persephone. A retelling of the Hades and Persephone myth, a story of fate, the struggle for power, and love found in the most unexpected places. ***** Persephone has been raised in Olympus all her life - her mother absent, her father a cruel king, with her siblings teaching her all they know. She has seen all of what the gods and goddesses do and she is sick of it. When she learns her safety is threatened by staying in Olympus, she flees to the Underworld. There she stays until she learns that her leaving has caused the world to wilt. But leaving behind her newfound friends and Lady of the Underworld is something she will not do willingly, no matter the consequences. Hades
Evie Autumn, like almost every other nineteen year old was just your average, unassuming, everyday girl. She attended university, she had that one quirk that everyone thinks is weird (an obsession with Greek mythology, in case you were wondering) and she had to stop herself from repeatedly smacking her best friend daily for his naycare, partying ways. Basically, her life couldn't be anymore normal if she tried. But then her normal world is shattered when that same best friend is killed right before her very eyes, and a mysterious stranger approaches her and introduces himself as Hades, God of the Underworld. Hades offers Evie a deal; he'll let her best friend live if she agrees to return with him to the Underworld as his very own modern-day Persephone. Suddenly Evie's thrust into a world where gods are real and life after death is all too possible; and to top it all off, she makes a deal to live with the devil for six months in exchange for her best friend's life.
