In Book 3, Max attempts to reconquer Magicka, the province of Magicians and Witches and fails. But in a strange twist of events, the Duchess of Magicka offers to rejoin the Empire if Max would be engaged to the Duchess' daughter, the Princess of Magicka. Will Max forget about his first love Jessica, thereby sacrificing his own happiness of the sake of the Empire? Or will he follow his heart and reject the engagement?

Meanwhile, on the home front, Max's aunt, the former Empress Lilith, is doing all she can to assassinate him, so that she can claim to be the one true ruler of the Empire, without the lords and ladies questioning her rule. She has even joined forces with Billy Bob and Colleen Channer, cousins of Max who have claims to the throne. Will war be openly declared between the House of Channer and the House of Jusoy, thus putting Max's own crown in jeopardy?

And as if Max didn't have enough to deal with, his aunt Empress Lilith has sent Irina the Magician to the Imperial Court to get rid of him so that the Empress could reclaim the Occult Throne without any opposition.
