After years of society gaining more freedoms and rights than ever before, a radical new leader with a dictator-style of running things decides to ensure more order in his country.
In this new society comes new officials sent to each community to be in charge of a person, controlling their occupation, home and even who they are supposed to marry and love. By controlling each adult, President Praxin hopes to ensure a more peaceful, methodical nation is in place. Failure to comply with their new life or make monthly contributions to their society results in death.
When Joel Anderson, a former in pre-Praxin times is forced to become a farmer for his small town of Hopkins by his appointed advisor-in-charge, life as he knows it will be dramatically changed, especially when his selected wife Hadley Ellis comes to live with him.
