Marietta crash lands her fighter ship after being shot down during a large scale space ship battle against her people's long sworn foes.  Now she finds herself on a desolate planet in the middle of a desert, missing half of her left leg.  She faints in the sun baked sand and awakes to find someone who appears to be wielding magic in a world dominated by science.  As she comes to, she begins to learn that there is far more going on in this world than she ever realized before.
