Inkopolis, the city of color, home of inklings is about to celebrate it's most long honored traditions, the Splatfest. Unfortunately there has been a strange power outage about a week before Splatfest. Nobody cares and think the Splatfest will continue anyway but not a particular inkling named Reo. He was approached by an old Cuttlefish name Cap'n Cuttlefish who claims to know who is behind the power outage. Reo has agreed to help him save the zapfish that powered the city. Reo expects to help him and leave but once he learned to make a commitment as an Agent of the Squidbeak splatoon, the longer he wishes to stay and protect his home.

Being on many missions herself, fighting Octolings like him, she can't help but get the feeling that something about him isn't quite right. Agent 8 feels unsure and unwelcomed to the city as he is forced to hide his identity as not all inklings accept Octolings into their home. Not only that, but he also has a problem with getting along with Agent 3! But what happens if a mysterious, unknown threat comes toward the surface, threatening to destroy both Inkling and Octoling kind alike? Can the agents work together to save their race?
