In 1692, The Salem Witch Trials plagued the entirety of colonial Massachusetts, when over 100 people were convicted and prosecuted for participating in the practice of witchcraft.

Over a century later after this tragic event, Henry Pickford, a real estate agent, travels unknowingly through Salem Village to return home to his beloved fiancé. The town's toxic past is unbeknownst to Henry. While making many stops along the way, one in particular will prove to Henry that things once thought forgotten, are very much real and part of a most mortifying and disturbing present.

After failed crops, still births, deaths, burnt homes and facing starvation, superstitions run rampant and the townspeople do the only thing they can think of in the late 1600s to appease these angry and destructive spirits. It is quietly decided by the elders of the community, in an effort to keep these spirits of the bird people at bay, that every woman should give up her first born infant daughter to them. One such young mother cannot bear this resolution much less imagine giving up her only child.
