Philip Hamilton was born with a tumor located on his heart. At first they believed he would be fine until about five then have to have surgery. But after about a year the doctors realize it is more than a small tumor. Eliza and Alexander keep the truth from Philip for a while but when he finally learns why his chest hurt at random he wants to live each day as though it's his last. And it might be.
When he meets Theodosia Burr he almost forgets about all the horrible things in his life. But as the years go by the chest pains happen more often than normal.
So he begins to say I love you to Theodosia just in case it's the end.
