Magic is misunderstood. Many think they know what it is. Take Hermione Granger who treats it like a scientist in a chemist lab. Or Voldemort who sees it as his tool or slave to his power. Or Fudge who sees it as way of life and a way of controlling.
It is the same way for muggles, many creatures, half-breeds and so on. Everyone misunderstands it.
Yet there are few who truly understand it.
Yet they are mistreated.
Take Harry James Potter, the boy who lives in Private Drive and the Boy-Who-Lived to the Wizardry World. The boy who is abused in Private Drive 4. The boy who's name is unspoken unless needed like primary mundane schooling or governmental things. Freak or Boy is his name to his relatives. By blood at least.
The only friends he has is the Man in the Moon and small creatures who live in Private Drive. The only comfort or fun to him is reading, learning and music. Now how music? His relatives would never take him to lessons. No, Harry taught himself. There was only a few abandoned building in Private Drive. And one of them being an orchestra auditorium.
There Harry learned how to play every instrument he could find or learn how to craft. Yet the Man in the Moon gave him his precious violin. Harry kept it with him close.
So when he discovers that his freakiness is Magic. Harry is determined to learn it all. And more importantly what it truly is. And with that Harry starts his first step to becoming the most powerful, wisest and kindest wizard ever known. More powerful than Merlin Emrys. More wiser than the greatest minds. And holder of the greatest heart of gold.
