Senator Riyo Chuchi is beginning to lose her faith in the Republic. After being the target of several assassination attempts, she finds herself placed under the protection of Commander Fox and the Coruscant Guard. Riyo has many suspicions about the leadership of the Republic and decides to take matters into her own hands. With the help of Commander Fox, she begins to unravel the many mysteries of the Senate, and of her own mind as well. 

Commander Fox never took interest in politics until Riyo Chuchi entered his life. He had only ever seen the war as black and white. However, as the two of them began to work together to uncover several plots and mysteries within the Republic and the war, he finds himself lost in a pool of gray. War is not all it had seemed at first. Fox is swept away in a whirl of plots and plans, and the only thing there to anchor him is a senator whom he'd had no interest in. The more Fox is with Riyo, though, the more he realizes that there is more to life than following orders. The war is nearing its end and no one knows what waits beyond it. Senators and soldiers alike must reach for the truth and take hold in time, or else be caught in the wave of ruin threatening to sweep over the galaxy.

This book contains themes that may trigger some and deals with the subject of war. There will be chapters that deal with death, suicide, slight gore, etc.

Immediately following the events of The Last Jedi, the battle for the galaxy continues between the First Order and the last of the Resistance. As the new Supreme Leader takes the throne, the First Order is focused on finding and destroying all who oppose them. The Resistance had disappeared into hiding and desperation has forced them to explore the gray areas of war. Meanwhile, on opposite sides of the war, Rey and Kylo Ren are forced to face the realities of their bond, their complicated relationship, their loyalty to their causes, and their understanding of the Force. Could their star-crossed connection be tied to the fate of the galaxy? This is a slow burn! Enemies to friends to lovers. This story continues the arcs and themes beautifully woven through The Last Jedi, as well as the narrative from the previous two trilogies. All plot elements are intended to be canon-compliant through TLJ. This is 100% complete. It was completed in December 2019 on A03 before The Rise of Skywalker was released, so this is not a "fix-it" fic as much as an alternative to Episode IX. This is a dark story. A powerful red laser of an unseen weapon obliterates the surface of a planet. Shrieks, whispers and screams and then the sound of a lightsaber igniting. A fiery red saber but behind that saber is Rey, her hand twitches and the saber becomes a double-pronged staff. A maniacal evil laugh cackles. Kylo woke with a start and sat upright on his bed.
