The smoke covers the truth, merely a mirage of hope. 
But soon enough, the smoke succumbs to its quick demise,
and that's when reality is uncovered. 

I always knew life seemed too simple, too perfect even. Perhaps humanity's largest flaw is remaining cursed with egocentrism.
How could we have been so foolish?
How could we have been so blind? 
So far from the truth? 

At least the smoke smothering my eyes has now died down, no matter the brutal, gory and dark reality it has kept hidden from me.
