FOREWORD This book is greatly inspired by one of my childhood fantasies Jess De Silva from the Mediator Series of Meg Cabot. Then another empowered female writer came in the picture, VE Schwab, who fed my fondness of paranormals with her Archived Series and City of Ghosts, which actually has the same near death experience as my character. I started this one a decade ago but life happens and I have to put this down for so long until this pandemic. Time was sufficient thus I turn to my hobbies to make the most of the gift of time. One of them is writing. Originally, this was just for me. To test my capabilities, to put my mind into writing, but then in the course of penning this, I decided to share this with you, to those who would rather live in their own fictional worlds. Afterall, we are all in-betweens bounded by our fears of not being enough or not doing enough. May this remind you of the power of trying and that you do not have to be enough for others. You just have to be enough for yourself. Also, may we all be embolden by our real life worlds, though tiring and crazy, to build our own. Cliché, but fictions are created to make our reality bearable. For those who still think that they are stuck, sharing this escape with you. - Taraa Muñoz

*First in the Fire Whiskey series* 'What if I was making the wrong choice again, picking the bad guy over the steady and reliable one? Because as I lay there in Steve's arms thinking about Brad, this became a very real choice...and the choice slowly become a decision. No matter how I looked at the situation, I wasn't shaking these new feelings. I had chosen Brad without meaning to, and laying with Steve suddenly felt wrong. Very, very, wrong. Like I was cheating, but he was the one I was engaged to!' Paige accidentally discovers love the way it was meant to be with her fiance's ex-best friend as she pushes for them to reconcile the past, but the two seem destined to be star-crossed lovers as the unforeseen keeps Steve in her life. Brad is quiet, mysterious, always in control. His calming presence spreads through her soul like fire whiskey does in her body. Steve is steadfast, morally upright, dedicated, and simple. She is also haunted by her traumatic history with Jay, and struggles to move beyond the abuse he put her through, which is affecting her relationship with Brad. Paige wrestles with self-doubt, self-destruction, working through trauma, PTSD, grief, and loss. She is a beautiful and talented singer, with a charming and sweet personality, and encompasses a huge capacity for love in spite of how broken she has been.
