Mature
When recovering alcoholic Emma Farouk's violent ex-lover demands custody of their disabled daughter, she can only trust herself to protect her child - if she can resist the temptation to take one more drink.

The overall inspiration for this story was a woman who was both a talented poet and afflicted with fetal alcohol syndrome, who I met through a writing workshop. I've tried to give Suzy the the loving mother J. never had and provided readers with a window into the world of people with FAS. As well as, of course, a rip-roaring reading experience. Gradually, more characters found their way in -- the identity thief from "Eight Seconds," and the concerned but deeply flawed father of "Trace," both short stories also published here on Wattpad. (Caution -- spoiler alert!)

And finally -- I hope you enjoy the evocative cover art by Miguel Muñoz Hierro from Pixabay.

The 12 Steps is a powerful story of resilience, healing, and the journey toward forgiveness-both of others and of oneself. "...there were a lot of things I was forced to learn and that made me resent my family for it. One of them is the fact that I learned more about family at rehab than I ever did when I was home." - Lincoln "I always had this plan. A plan where I would graduate high school with the highest GPA, get a full-ride baseball scholarship to Stanford University, and then work my way to the major league baseball teams. It was a plan I had made with Lincoln when we were younger. A dream we shared to play baseball together. A dream that died when he overdosed." - Liam
