Obey and please.

That, and a few other things, is all Devlyn Trace knows about living. Better yet, breathing. At age ten, he was taken, and raised in a place that feeds off of raw pain and terror with pleasure. A place where all are punished when the Superiors feel like they want to punish.

"No one cares about me. I'm pathetic. A waste of breath and space. I'm worthless. Nothing..."
Eight years later, and those are the words he repeats daily, so penalties would be less harsh. But those words are true. They are what he's become. A nuisance. A complete and utter waste of space. Or maybe after eight years of the same old shit, he believes that. After all, the Superiors brainwashed him into thinking so.

But the real question is: What was his life like before it was robbed from him?
