Rose [Mashikyu]

"Why do we use the word 'rose' to describe a sweet fragrance? Any other word could smell just as sweet."

I was confused. What did he mean? But at the same time I was worried- scared about our families, about the world around us.

"In the same way, why is romantic love limited to a man and woman? A relationship between the two of us would be just as spectacular."

Two boys in the 1990s shouldn't be falling in love, especially not when they both come from conservative families. But just as the meaning of the word 'rose' is challenged, the understanding of right and wrong is going to be redefined.

And it all starts when two boys meet in the city of Seoul.

"Junkyu!" I heard my mom call, "Wake up! My friend from high school is moving back to Seoul today, we have to welcome her!" I groaned in response, not registering anything she had said- I was too tired and it was too early in the morning to deal with her energy, to be honest.

"Oh! She's also bringing her husband and her son with her! I hope you'll make a good impression- maybe even make friends with him, alright?"

I mumbled a small 'yes' in response- not realising just how much of an impact that boy would have on my life.
