In the battle of hogwarts, Harry never finds out the truth of his abilities and scar and as he destroys Voldemort's body after Neville slaughtered the snake, he thought victory was near. He didn't know there was one horcrux left... him. Thus with Voldemort's body destroyed, the soul inside Harry starts to merge and fight against Harry's in an attempt to over throw and control merge into his body.
