They say it came after people with 'it'. It had you in its mental cage where it'd torture you and comfort you later, like an abusive husband. Everyone knew the endgame of it and anyone who had it was either already too sunken deep or was fighting out of its quick sand nature.
Some free themselves of it; some are not as lucky and end up losing and giving in to it. We free ourselves of the thing or we get eaten up by the thing.
Yes, the thing is depression and yes, the endgame is suicide.
