Tomas continued to look back at the door as he stormed down the sidewalk of his home, his suitcase clacking against the pavement. There were no words to describe how he felt. He just knew he was hurting. Tomas often bickered with his dad, but it had never gotten to the extent it did just a few seconds earlier. He had just had an argument with his father, and his father gave him an ultimatum: leave home or leave his best friend. Tomas couldn't grasp the concept of him supposedly hating someone because of the color of their skin color or where they came from, so he chose his friend. Tomas shot another glance at the door secretly hoping his dad would walk out and apologize.The pathway from his home wasn't long, but the walk felt interminable.
