"Remember, I don't talk to you and you don't talk to me. As long as we keep our distance, no one will ever figure out our secret." Noah said to Marilyn on their walk to school. "And you're sure this plan is full proof?" She said back to him. "Yeah, as long as we don't acknowledge each other in public, no one will bully us. We go to different cliques and become different people. As long as we do that, nobody will know that we're best friends."
~~~
Marilyn went about her day as usual. Saying hi to everyone in the halls, smiling to the students just to lighten up their day, she was the school sweetheart. Nice to everyone, oblivious to everything. The entire student body and faculty knew her and adored her. She is the one girl who is nice to everyone, even if they treat her like dirt. Marilyn was just that type of person. She walked down the hallways like always and made eye contact with him again. Like they always do. Their eyes snapped to each other like magnets. Those eyes, cold to anyone else, but warm and inviting to her.
A bad ass. Every school has one. And for McDermott High, it was Noah Tyler. He walked the halls like he owned the place and everybody knew it. He reeked of egotistic cockiness. He kept very few people close to him, because he liked his privacy. But for being the school's best wide receiver in 3 decades, it's kind of hard to keep his privacy. When he's on the field, he just does what he's supposed to; catch the ball, avoid the big defenders and make touchdowns. After that, nobody bothered him. They were too scared or too nervous. He was leaning against his locker, talking to one of his few close friends. Then he saw her. He would notice her from a mile away, he always did. Noah looked at her with his famous cold stare. But she could see right past it.
