High school junior Clementine Decker lives her life like a "modern-day" flower child in 1994. Julian's lifestyle is a lot like Clem's, and although he takes some getting used to, they hit it off, first as friends, then as lovers. Clem's parents disapprove of Julian at first, but with their blessing, the young couple spend the summer after their junior year traveling the nation in Julian's van, including a stop at Summerfest in Wisconsin. Clem finally gets her chance to travel with the one she loves, but homesickness gets the best of her.
