Meylisah was the daughter of a past maid and best friend of Hurrem sultan. When her parents tragically died she was taken under Hurrem sultan's wing to be cared for. Not really adopted for it was forbidden in Islam but she was just glad to have a roof over head.
Selim was the excited to come back to the capital to see his siblings and a special someone he missed so very much only to be met with a disaster to the face and he doesn't know how to get out of it.
